Children and Young People

Supporting Children and Young people with Emotional Wellbeing, Confidence & Connection

The teenage years can be full of change, pressure, and big emotions – for both young people and their parents. School, friendships, family life, and questions about identity can all feel overwhelming at times. Counselling offers a calm, confidential space where teenagers can talk things through and feel supported.

I work with children and young people aged 9 and above. Every young person is different, so I adapt my approach to suit their individual needs – whether they’re neurotypical or neurodivergent. My aim is to help them feel more confident, understand themselves better, and find healthier ways to manage life’s challenges.

Counselling Techniques for Children and Young People

Every teenager is different, so I use a flexible mix of approaches. Some prefer to talk things through, while others find it easier to express themselves through creative activities or games. No matter what it is, I’ll find what feels most comfortable and effective for them.

Person-Centred Counselling

This is a calm, non-judgmental approach that offers children and young people the space to talk at their own pace and feel listened to and valued.

Creative & Expressive Therapy

I can use a variety of techniques including art, journaling, music, or drawing which can help children and young people who find it tricky to express themselves with words.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

This can help children and young people start to notice and then challenge unhelpful thoughts, reduce anxiety, and develop healthier coping strategies.

Neuro-Affirming Approaches

I offer supportive, affirming counselling for children who have Autistic Spectrum Disorder and/or ADHD.

Game & Play-Based Therapy

Using games, humour, and storytelling can make it easier to explore feelings and emotions in a relaxed, engaging way.
